My name is Ms Nicole, and this is my class! As children grow, they face problems during play. the children are encouraged to come up with solutions to tackle their issues.
About 3 Year Olds...
They are fun, curious, and beginning to understand the world around them. As they reach this age, social situations or struggles will surface. To help them cope and understand tough situations, problem solving is used (Vanderbilt University, 2019).
What is Problem Solving?
According to MacNaughton and Williams (2009), problem solving is a teaching technique that teaches children how to find solutions to the problems, puzzles and questions that they face. Communication is used to help children to find out their problem and independence is encouraged when using the problem solving technique. This enables children to overcome the obstacles they face by themselves.
Video example of Problem Solving
In the video example, the two children have met a problem, where Joyce knocked down Amal's blocks and walked away. Amal was upset and Ms Nicole called both the children together to problem-solve with the use of the Problem Solving teaching technique. The children realised the problem and stated steps to solve the issue together.
